Mona Lisa - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - Few images are as immediately recognizable as the Mona Lisa, which also makes it endlessly available for reinvention. Across this selection, artists pull Leonardo’s familiar figure into entirely different visual languages, moving through painting, collage, graffiti, abstraction, fashion, and pop culture. Some preserve her face almost intact while everything around her changes. Others obscure, fragment, redraw, or completely remake her. Yet even when very little of the original remains, she is still somehow recognizable. What connects these works is less a shared interpretation than the freedom each artist takes with the same starting point. Centuries later, one portrait continues to be copied, interrupted, joked with, dressed up, painted over, and made new again.
