A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - A speaker, a toy car, a clock, a photograph, a garden figure—objects we know almost immediately appear throughout this selection, but not quite where we expect to find them. Removed from their original use, these everyday things become material for something new. They are embedded, encased, stacked, cut apart, or placed beside objects that have little obvious relationship to one another. Recognition is part of the experience: we know what we are looking at, even as its familiar purpose begins to disappear. There is humor and strangeness in these combinations, but also a genuine curiosity about the things we live with. In the hands of these artists, the ordinary object becomes surprisingly open-ended.
