Space Grunge - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - ‘Space Grunge’ is a curation that imagines outer space through the visual language of the 1990s—when MTV aesthetics, early digital effects, and pop surrealism shaped how the future was pictured. Astronauts, planets, and galaxies appear less as symbols of progress and more as images to be distorted, exaggerated, and pushed toward noise. Across painting and digital media, space becomes saturated, imperfect, and overstimulated—closer to a broadcast feed than a scientific diagram. This is not a heroic or utopian cosmos. It’s loud, awkward, and slightly absurd. A future filtered through pop culture, analog grit, and low-resolution fantasy—where space is treated not with reverence, but with attitude.
