The vermilion threshold - curated by Ainhoa Fernández

A curation by Ainhoa Fernández, Art gallerist and curator at AF - Red is one of humanity's oldest cultural symbols. From prehistoric ochre to Renaissance vermilion, it has embodied life and death, desire and sacrifice, power and transformation. More than a color, it is a language through which civilizations have expressed memory, ritual, and emotion. This exhibition explores red as a threshold between the visible and the symbolic. The works gathered here use its chromatic intensity to explore presence, vulnerability, passion, and renewal, revealing how a single color can convey centuries of cultural and emotional significance. Instead of serving as a visual accent, red becomes a space for reflection where history, materiality, and personal experience converge, inviting viewers to consider color not only as perception, but as one of humanity's oldest forms of knowledge.
