Voci fuori dal coro - curated by Flavio Scaloni

A curation by Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager at Galerie Lo Scalo - Singing in art is a visual manifestation of the soul's resonance, symbolizing the release of emotion and the bridge between the physical and the ephemeral. Psychologically, the act of singing is associated with catharsis and communal connection, representing a moment where the internal psyche becomes audible and public. Since 1950, artists have moved beyond literal depiction to capture the raw energy and movement of the voice. Alice Neel explored the intimate intensity of performance in her expressive portraits, while Jean-Michel Basquiat integrated the spirit of bebop and vocal jazz into the rhythmic scribbles of works like King Zulu (1986). In contemporary sculpture, Nick Cave creates "Soundsuits" that transform the body into a vibrating instrument of song and dance. In photography, the world-famous Annie Leibovitz captured the visceral power of the voice in her iconic 1991 portrait of Aretha Franklin, showing the singer in a moment of pure, soulful exertion. This selection celebrates the human voice as a primal force of creative liberation.
