About this artwork
This watercolor is part of a series of watercolors dedicated to animals.
In particular, this leopard, with its black-and-white coat, evokes a spiritual principle according to which light manifests itself even in "blackness," darkness. This darkness is not the heavy darkness of unconsciousness (the active darkness of evil), but rather that Black Light that Henry Corbin calls "superconsciousness." The black light of the Divine Night, necessary for… the transmutation of our soul, for alignment with the Self, and for the manifestation of the "m undus imaginalis" (the birth of the heavenly earth) in spiritual experience.

Ada Mascolo is an Italian painter and visual artist, educated at the Liceo Artistico "R. Cottini" and the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin. She primarily works in painting and drawing. Her technique relies on glazes, layering of color, and intuitive gestures, creating forms suspended between presence and absence; white becomes the site of invisible epiphany.
