About this artwork
I love doing portraiture, and if the client agrees, I love telling a story through the painting. I love integrating aspects of their life that were important to them, that they cherish. I love the subject coming to life, not only through the painting of their face, their posture, but also through what life has meant to them. In this case, Ailsa was a professional hot air balloon pilot and loves steam trains, Portchester Castle, sailing, and nature.… Good communication with the client is key to being able to tell that story.
Agnes Boes, a Belgian artist based in Ireland, creates across painting, poetry, photography, and weaving, drawing from a rich self-taught background with formal training in Brussels and Cork. Her style weaves symbolism and surrealism in deeply personal yet universal narratives, employing a contemplative process that balances intuition and careful observation. Her works invite viewers into the landscapes of her inner and outer world; exploring trauma, the here and now, and inner silence, encouraging each viewer to embark on their own intimate journey of discovery.. Agnes Boes is a member of VIA, Visual Artists Ireland.
