Stanislaus Katczinski, known as KAT, is one of the main characters in Erich Maria Remarque's novel Nothing new in the West. He is the typical surrogate father who will be mentioned again and again in later anti-war… novels and short stories. These are the men without significant military rank, without big tinsel and medals, but who have defied hell several times and are quite experienced in the everyday struggle for survival, in a scenario that has become a nightmare, in which dying and killing suddenly become normal. It is an unexpected, extremely cruel world that no one before, at school or in the seclusion of the barracks, could or wanted to bring even halfway honestly closer to.

Andreas Noßmann is a draftsman based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally and in the Netherlands. Having always been fascinated by topics that touch or disturb, his artistic practice is also marked by his requirement for "a perfect graphic implementation". Noßmann's distinctive and diverse landscapes, portraits, and still-lifes are created with pastels, graphite, pencils, India ink, chalk, and charcoal on paper, canvas, or cardboard.
