In addition to my new Remarque series In the West Nothing New, a small internal portrait series is being created: The lost generation. Today, this term refers to the generation of all those men who once waved flags in 1914 and inspired by blind patriotism, or, like Ernst Jünger at the time, out of a pure thirst for adventure, who actually longed for this war out of a pure thirst for… adventure in order to flee from the school desk to the front as quickly as possible.
Even the socially critical artist and later pacifist Käthe Kollwitz supported her son in his deluded desire to take part in this great "adventure" against the express will of his clearly more far-sighted father. In the end she regretted it bitterly, like millions of others. Those who miraculously survived this inferno, the years of inhuman trench warfare and material battles, came to their bodies ...

Andreas Noßmann is a draftsman based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally and in the Netherlands. Having always been fascinated by topics that touch or disturb, his artistic practice is also marked by his requirement for "a perfect graphic implementation". Noßmann's distinctive and diverse landscapes, portraits, and still-lifes are created with pastels, graphite, pencils, India ink, chalk, and charcoal on paper, canvas, or cardboard.
