About this artwork
In the framed observational study Poised Grace, Ann was guided by her admiration of this flower’s elegance, with a stance as self-assured as that of a ballerina. The exquisiteness of its petals is painted in sunny oil colours on an acrylic inked background, becoming softer, smoother and increasing in their abstraction toward the edges of the canvas. As in the other works from Ann’s abstract realism series the focal point at the centre of the bloom… is depicted in vivid detail. She has approached the intricacies of the organic form with thin lines and shapes, delicate reflections and gentle shadows. Like many others, this piece was inspired by the joy Ann finds in our natural world and her concern for the future of our planet.
« My life is like a mosaic, composed of little fragments of memories, traditions and family histories. Yet despite all this, my heart sings in a quiet whisper. »
Ann Bubis, a painter and sculptor from the United Kingdom, has exhibited in Germany, Czechia, the United States and the U.K. As an intuitive artist, her abstract and realistic pieces are a response to global issues concerning the environment and ‘throw-away society’, as well as ancestral history, to name a few. Bubis works comprise varying styles and media, with her current focus on framed mosaics and sculptures which she calls ‘juxtapositions’.
