About this artwork
In Repetitivescape 3, Ann’s acrylic brushstrokes tell stories in layers: a smooth green background is vibrant and joyful; patches of blue in a variety of shades introduce a softness and movement; darker blue brushstrokes transform into more controlled and contained lines darting horizontally across the canvas; Lavender lines overlap following the parallel blues, but are painted with a looser, heavier hand for a sense of pending chaos; and finally,… a bright and textured crisscrossing both vertically and horizontally at the heart of the canvas immediately draws in the viewer. It is a story of building suspense, urgency and anxiety, a story of having spent a year living with the Covid-19 pandemic at the time this piece was painted, and a story of its impact on mental health around the world. Throughout her Repetitivescapes series, Ann has worked with interference colours to add depth and interest.
« My life is like a mosaic, composed of little fragments of memories, traditions and family histories. Yet despite all this, my heart sings in a quiet whisper. »
Ann Bubis, a painter and sculptor from the United Kingdom, has exhibited in Germany, Czechia, the United States and the U.K. As an intuitive artist, her abstract and realistic pieces are a response to global issues concerning the environment and ‘throw-away society’, as well as ancestral history, to name a few. Bubis works comprise varying styles and media, with her current focus on framed mosaics and sculptures which she calls ‘juxtapositions’.
