About this artwork
In painting the “Rhythmscape Requiem” series, Ann is creating visual music using a variety of layers. In the background, there is a reflective surface created using interference colours that give off a luminosity which changes from greens to pinks or reds to blues depending on the time of day. It looks different in the morning than it does at noon and different still in the evening light. These subtle touches mimic the delicate approach of nature.… The next few layers are crisp, interweaving lines painted in matt colours which have their own spontaneity, a mass of contrasts to the background.
Ann wishes to hypnotise the viewers so they feel like they are looking at the rhythms and patterns of everything around them. The Japanese term “Kami” means “the energy generating a thing”. “Kami” exists in nature, rivers, places and people. “Kami and people exist within the same world and share its interrelated complexity.”
« My life is like a mosaic, composed of little fragments of memories, traditions and family histories. Yet despite all this, my heart sings in a quiet whisper. »
Ann Bubis, a painter and sculptor from the United Kingdom, has exhibited in Germany, Czechia, the United States and the U.K. As an intuitive artist, her abstract and realistic pieces are a response to global issues concerning the environment and ‘throw-away society’, as well as ancestral history, to name a few. Bubis works comprise varying styles and media, with her current focus on framed mosaics and sculptures which she calls ‘juxtapositions’.
