In this work, CW Loth explores themes of relationship and connection. Two vertical elements rise upwards and are enclosed and held together by a ring-shaped element.
Design language: The sculpture captivates with its slender, vertical dynamism. The gentle twists in the wood lend the two "dancers" a lightness that contrasts with the material's permanence.
Materiality: The light, soft texture of the linden wood appears elegant and serene. The fine… grain is emphasized by the precise surface finishing, while the dark base provides a striking contrast.
Symbolism: The enclosing ring acts as a connecting element – a symbol of closeness, support, and shared movement. The sculpture appears different from every angle: sometimes the bodies seem to merge, sometimes they retain their individuality.
CW Loth is a sculptor from Westphalia who completed his artistic training at the Ottersberg University of Applied Sciences and has been working with wood for decades. His technique involves transforming massive blocks of wood into complex, dynamic sculptures using a chainsaw, essentially folding the inside out – everything is created from a single piece. His constructivist-concrete style and precise carving create imaginary movements in space. Loth's sculptures convey a quiet tension and lead the viewer to a profound experience of space, potential, and inner movement.
