About this artwork
As a victim you have a life before ..and a life after. You are no longer who you were before. You have to rebuild yourself from scratch. You live with an invisible scar that no one wants to see.
What makes the situation worse is that family, friends and society avoid you because they can't bring themselves to listen to your story. It feels like a second layer of shame coming over you.
In order to exist, you must be welcome.
Luckely... nothing… in life is forever... Believe in yourself, you are a wonderful human being and no you are not alone. We all have scars but so many are too afraid to talk about them.
This wonderful piece of art talks about resilience. On how we get up again and again. How we feel victorious after taking the first step towards loving ourselves again... feeling welcome in our own heart.
I use my creative voice to raise awareness, to tackle the stigmatization and to find a new language when talking about domestic violence.

Through this process, I aim to question, challenge, and provoke established narratives and cultural hierarchies, particularly those surrounding equality and abuse; while inviting new perspectives and interpretations.
I have studied for almost 20 years at both the Academy of Art in Brugge & Mechelen, Belgium. I am classically trained and I master a wide range of painting and drawing techniques, from realistic work to expressive and experimental styles.
