About this artwork
This is an acrylic painting of Lover's Leap in Patrick County Virginia. Lover’s Leap Scenic Overlook is the grandest of several long-range views along your journey through Patrick County. In the 1600's, white settlers started arriving to the area and began clearing land to farm. Conflict arose between the Native Americans and the settlers. Legend has it that the son of a settler saw the twinkle in the eyes of the Chief's daughter, Morning Flower,… and was immediately love-struck. The couple began to meet secretly and their love continued to grow. The young man and maiden were threatened and shunned for wanting to be together. With the beautiful rock and wildflowers as their backdrop, they jumped into the wild blue yonder ensuring they would be together forever. As you gaze out at Lover’s Leap, you can still see the evidence of their love in the beautiful view and hear them whisper in the cool evening breezes.
Charles Hill is a painter with a rich background in both art and mathematics, drawing inspiration from old masters and modern greats, and working in oils, acrylics, and pencil. He masterfully employs photo-realism, surrealism, and post-impressionistic styles, building intricate layers with glazing, dry brush, and wet-on-wet techniques. His art explores the interconnections between art, science, and mathematics, powerfully evoking both the visible world and its hidden, inner dimensions, inviting viewers into profound contemplation and awe.
