About this artwork
This painting depicts an (imaginary) landscape of ice and snow on the Antarctic continent, as I envision it, both hostile and magnificent. The composition is based on a juxtaposition of horizontal bands and polyhedra. The dominant colors are white and a very muted Prussian blue, with a few touches of ochre. A wolf stands motionless atop a promontory. It raises its head, trying to sniff out signs of life. "He couldn't take any more of all this ice… and this wind, and this wind, and this wind that never ceased to press down on him, on them, on all the men of Antarctica" (The Night of Time - R. Barjavel).
Christian Delavelle: Painter of the ephemeral and the imaginary. Through his canvases, Christian Delavelle captures the essence of transparency, light, and movement. His pictorial language, bordering on the figurative, invites the viewer on a journey where reality and dream intertwine. Each work is a window onto rare moments, silent encounters between living beings and the natural elements: a tree conversing with a comet in the night, a train emerging from the fog, a sailor defying a breaking wave, a galloping horse springing from the invisible, or the gaze of a bird contemplating the lagoon at dusk. His art, both poetic and powerful, celebrates lightness and pure emotion, transforming each canvas into a unique sensory experience. Cote Akoun 2025: €600 (standard format 65 x 50 cm)
