About this artwork
This work is part of an artistic approach that recalls the American Pop Art movement, and in particular artists like Jasper Johns.
The artist uses a textured and raw approach to represent the American flag, a strong symbol, which is revisited with a deliberately worn and imperfect style.
The visible marks and imperfections give the impression of alteration, suggesting a reflection on the current state of society, on the passage of time and even… a subtle critique of consumer culture.
David Decourcelle is a visual artist from Hauts de France. A graduate of the Amiens Higher School of Art and Design, he obtained the Higher National Diploma in Plastic Expression in 2002.
David quickly established his unique artistic and graphic style. His work is characterized by the creation of minimalist ink portraits on a monochrome blue background.
Through his creations, the artist explores recurring themes such as questions of identity, the gaze and otherness.
His work has been exhibited in numerous group and individual exhibitions in France and Spain.
