About this artwork
Most evenings feel the same—traffic, noise, headlights blurring together as the day refuses to slow down. In this painting you find yourself in that familiar moment: a Washington, D.C. street at dusk where brake lights dissolve into blue-gray air and buildings soften at the edges.
What should feel frustrating begins to feel cinematic. Warm gold cuts through the cool tones of the city and the motion settles into rhythm instead of chaos.
From across… the room the lights gather into a soft glow of evening traffic; step closer and the brushwork reveals the movement behind it. Living with the painting becomes a quiet reminder that even in motion there can be calm—a brief breath in the middle of everything.
Painted in oil on canvas using layered glazing, the work captures a fleeting urban moment suspended between movement and stillness.
Dennis Crayon’s paintings are grounded in quiet observation, inviting the viewer to slow down, breathe, and look again.

Dennis Crayon is an award-winning American painter who has exhibited his works throughout the United States. In 1998, he attended a six-week architectural dig in the ancient ruins of Pompeii. The remarkably well-preserved ancient frescoes and murals would change the course of his creative journey and inspire his artistic vision. Crayon employs his background in classical painting techniques and trompe l’oeil in his oil creations.
