About this artwork
The painting “Wound” is an emotionally charged and symbolically rich work that reveals the drama of the human inner state. The composition is filled with tension, where colors and forms function not only as aesthetic elements but also as a language of emotion.
Darker, saturated tones contrast with lighter passages that break through like glimpses of light, suggesting the possibility of healing or hope. Here, the “wound” is understood not merely as… a physical injury, but as a spiritual scar — a mark of experience, loss, or survival. Within the painting, one can sense a dialogue between fragility and strength: pain becomes the beginning of transformation.
The artist’s painterly manner is expressive, at times even dramatic. The brushstrokes appear alive and pulsating, as if conveying an inner tension. The dynamism of the composition creates a feeling that the viewer is drawn into an internal narrative — invited not only to observe, but to experience.
Egidijus Dapsas, a Kaunas Art School graduate, majored in artistic leather and has background in blacksmithing and mural painting. His art is expressive, using abstraction, figuration, and vibrant colors paired with a variety of textures and forms, achieved through layering of paint. In exploring the fragility of existence and the tension between chaos and harmony, he strives to evoke a spectrum of feelings, reflections of the viewer's own world.
