About this artwork
Regarding "Harassment"
It's a social flaw of our time that collided in my mind with the dazzling memory of medieval engravings. Master 1466, Dürer, Holbein, Wolgemut, and so many others who remained anonymous, who left behind, with the fascinating finesse of line of copper engraving, these images that tell the story of their time.
In today's news, which has become a nightmare on our screens, harassment can escalate to murder, prompting me to… create this image of them expressing it in their minds. It's done on raw cardboard; the drawing is done in India ink, then enhanced with oil paint for the human skin.
This work captivates by presenting numerous characters within a complex and teeming setting. Each figure, drawn with meticulous attention, is articulated and interlocking within a vibrant, indexed scene. The painting employs forms (see further details with the painter).
Self-taught artist Jacques Resch masterfully wields oil paint, drawing on five decades of artistic exploration. He combines hyperrealism with surrealist echoes, borrowing the precision of the old masters to create dreamlike and contemplative worlds. Through his work, he invites the viewer to view our times with poetic intensity, blending wonder and reflection.
