"The Restaurateur"
This astonishing work is a bold and surreal reuse of Leonardo da Vinci's famous "Mona Lisa." The canvas depicts the iconic portrait in a rather dilapidated state, and is even in a disturbing state of degradation, as if time had annealed the painting's surface, inexorably cracking it. Seen from another perspective, it is also this hyperrealistic technique, totally mastered by this painter, that is also fascinating: these flakes… of paint are painted paint!
On the other hand, in the foreground, the man, slumped, exhausted, worn out and tired, his head on one arm, is him ''The Restaurateur'' (a self-portrait, but yes!) and this nap evokes the exhaustion in another restoration, this one in the news (2019...), where another restaurateur really broke his teeth on a reform/restoration (which has become an uncontrollable gas factory) of pensions which are also terribly cracked! THE BIG DEBATE!
