About this artwork
This work conveys a quiet and profoundly human strength. The figure of the worker, bent amidst the vertical density of the sugarcane, almost merges with the surroundings, as if an organic part of the landscape. It represents the craft, the continuous and anonymous effort.
The spatula, moving with a firm hand, leaves a trail of textured, gestural marks. There is concentration, dedication, and a direct connection to the earth. The work doesn't dramatize;… it dignifies. It speaks of work as an essential, almost spiritual act. From that silent effort, done by hand under the blazing sun, panela is born; not as just another product, but as the direct result of human resilience, daily sacrifice, and the profound bond between the farmer and the land that sustains him.
Javier Parra works with oil on canvas and initially trained in classical realist art workshops, returning to painting in 2017 with a contemporary exploration. He masters the palette knife and the alla prima technique, fusing natural and architectural landscapes in large formats, where texture and materiality intensify the visual experience. His works convey emotions of spirituality, love, and a deep connection with the environment, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the vibrant energy of light and the horizon.
