About this artwork
Craig was an elephant known for his calm nature and gentle presence, qualities that made this elephant truly unforgettable. During this shoot, I set out to vary my approach, photographing both intimate close-ups using a wide-angle lens and wider frames that placed him within his surroundings. This close portrait quickly became one of my personal favorites. Captured from a low angle with a wide perspective and dramatic clouds behind him, it reflected…
many of the elements I consistently sought in my wildlife photography art.
The image later became part of my limited edition elephant print collection and went on to be one of my most popular African wildlife prints. Craig passed away in January 2026, but this photograph continues to stand as a tribute to his quiet strength, dignity, and lasting presence in Amboseli.
