When the moon dances in the water
In this work, I have captured an intense emotion of water in the moonlight – its pure, rushing, almost dance-like movement. The black and white intensifies the contrasts, gives the dynamic depth, and a quiet power.
Here at Singulart I also offer a second, very similar image in the same size, which together can form a very nice diptych.
Water, in its form as a constantly changing canvas of light, movement, and… reflection, is the basis of the series "Where Light Dwells in Water." The canvas is metal—a reflective surface whose reflections are reminiscent of water and from which the inspiration for the images originates. Photographic images of water surfaces are artistically processed, printed, and transferred to the metal in multiple layers using dissolved pigments. They are then further developed with paints, inks, and various painting techniques—until complete.
Katharina Dustmann positions herself within the contemporary art discourse with a clearly defined visual language. Her artistic development is closely linked to her long-standing work as a composer – a background that is reflected in the structural precision and rhythmic design of her pictorial compositions.
Abstraction serves her not as a style, but as a consciously employed formal principle. Reflections play a crucial role: they model surfaces, create depth, and control the spatial effect of the works. Photographic elements, digital manipulation, and painterly layering interlock in a controlled manner, producing works of concentrated intensity.
Dustmann's works have been presented internationally and represent a consistently developed position with high recognition value. Her clear artistic signature and conceptual rigor make her works relevant contributions to contemporary collections.
