About this artwork
Part of the Masks and Illusions series, pastel and ink on colored paper, with chalk and ink highlights, captures a texture that's both soft and incisive. A moment captured with three Pierrots or zannis, sitting side by side, perhaps meditating, perhaps simply tired. Other, impalpable meanings surface. Perhaps even something mythical, presence and absence.
Three strong figures, the zanni, in my opinion, universal white figures, theatrically always… "double," seemingly melancholic. Silence certainly dominates the scene.
