This watercolor depicts a vibrant scene of a cattle drive, a procession I was privileged to witness in Sachrang—a traditional event captured here in delicate, flowing colors. The focal point is a magnificently decorated cow, marching proudly down the valley. Particularly striking is the animal's elaborately designed headdress: fresh fir foliage, artfully arranged floral wreaths in red, pink, and white, and colorful fluttering ribbons adorn its forehead… and horns. A small mirror in the center of the headdress reflects the light—a traditional protection against evil spirits. This image is not a sober documentation, but an emotionally charged memory: an atmospheric moment full of tradition, closeness to nature, and cultural beauty—captured in the fleeting transparency of watercolor.
Michaela Stocker is passionate about painting horses in pastels and oils. Her techniques are experimental, the focus is on the emotional bond between humans and animals. Her works of art radiate a deep connection and an almost tangible admiration for nature.
