About this artwork
This pastel work depicts the warmblood gelding Prinz in an energetic gallop—a tribute to the horse's dynamism and elegance. It is the first work in a trilogy and references the pâte-sur-pâte technique of classical porcelain painting. Although it is a pastel work, the soft color scheme—particularly the antique rose background—is reminiscent of the delicate tones and multi-layered transparency that result from working with porcelain slip.
Against… the reduced background, Prinz appears purist and clear, yet executed with a keen eye for detail. Every muscle, every movement is captured with utmost precision. The restrained color scheme emphasizes the horse's form and movement rather than overpowering them—an aesthetic dialogue between classical painting and modern animal depiction.
Michaela Stocker is passionate about painting horses in pastels and oils. Her techniques are experimental, the focus is on the emotional bond between humans and animals. Her works of art radiate a deep connection and an almost tangible admiration for nature.
