In the background of the painting, the shapes of the tapes can be seen. Most of the labels are colored with spraypaint.
These tapes give a beautiful texture to the painting.

In this painting Monique experiments with creating… an image without using contour lines. The portrait has an open structure, which it slowly disappears into the background. It are the colours that gives some contour to the image. The abstract representation with wavy lines keeps its attention on the elements in face like the nose, eyes and mouth. The mouth has pastel-like areas of color in a pattern to maintain balance and tension in the painting.
