About this artwork
This third portrait in the Azul series marks a particular moment in my work with this muse. For the first time, I depict her facing the viewer, in a more direct and silent presence.
While I was painting, I often wondered what she might be thinking. Her gaze seems calm, but it reveals an inner life that remains deliberately open.
The hair occupies a central place in the composition. It flows freely and traverses the painting like a living substance,… bringing movement and softness to the whole.
Created with oil and copper leaf on a wooden panel, the work plays with light: the copper captures and reflects the variations in light, creating a subtle vibration on the pictorial surface.
Nathalie Peyrot primarily uses oil paint on canvas or wood panels, drawing on a self-taught background enriched by drawing and pastels, as well as distinctive experience in traditional label design. Her contemporary style blends realism, symbolism, and expressiveness, enhanced by the subtle use of gold or copper leaf. She captures the inner strength, light, and uniqueness of women, evoking a vibrant, intimate, and profoundly authentic emotion in the viewer.
