About this artwork
In this piece, I melded a palette of abstract acrylic with stencil work to depict the visceral, musically inspired emotions of the dancers' narrative. The expressionism of the color surrounding the figures is designed to immerse the viewer in a tempest of feelings evoked by the weaving sweep of paint—one heavily influenced by the 1972 film and its narrative of ultimate tragedy.
The muted tones weave around and into the dancers, not only to evoke… the dynamism of their tango but to capture the desperation of their final embrace. This palette of siennas and bruised greens was chosen to mirror the sense of melancholy and impending loss that befits the film’s tragic plot—an intense romance now doomed and over.
While the work remains a celebration of movement, passion, and profound human connection, it is also a study of the inevitable weight of tragedy. It captures that final, synchronized moment before a doomed affair comes to an end and the world, in turn, dissolves around them.
« I express the truest version of myself as I was, am, and will be in my work. »
