About this artwork
My intention was to depict the evolving cityscape and harbour of Hong Kong through the decades, from the time of China as a crown colony of the UK to the present day.
In this painting, I've melded acrylics and ink with layers of spray paint and enamel, capped by the technique of stencil printing. I wanted to create an effect that portrayed the evolution of the skyline as time passes. The bottom layer depicting the trading port in the 1800s, and… the ascending architecture becoming more bustling, dynamic, and reflective of each decade.
I aimed to capture the evolving spirit of the city landscape, drawing from expressionism and oriental art influences while navigating through a semi-abstract form.
This piece reflects urban transformation, hopefully in a way that resonates with both energy and a sense of history.
