About this artwork
This work reworks the classical myth of Europa's abduction in an abstract way, relying on an expressive language full of gestural tension and chromatic contrast. The dominant red in the center evokes the strength of action and desire, while the material stratifications and nervous signs suggest movement, resistance and transformation. The mythological iconography is dissolved in a more interior, emotional dimension, leaving room for open interpretations.
« If we assign a place to art by designating it a space in which it must act, then we run the risk of rendering it harmless. Art must be subversive. -Anselm Kiefer »
