"Unveiling" consists of four transparent layers of fabric, fastened at the top and bottom with metal elements. The figurative representation on the front dissolves through two intermediate stages into an empty bundle of fabric strips. Under suitable lighting, all stages of dissolution and composition can be seen from both sides. I created the lines using freehand machine embroidery, resulting in a relief-like effect. My fundamental idea was to depict… humanity in a state of being lost, empty, and meaningless. Viewed from the back, however, there is hope of finding unity and balance again.
Renate Motycka works with textile materials, expressing her deep roots in textile art through a solid education and many years of experience. Her freehand machine embroidery technique is reduced to the essentials, characterized by clear forms, minimalist use of color, and three-dimensional effects, inspired by Bauhaus, Cubism, and Constructivism. Her works radiate tranquility, harmony, and a meditative flow, inviting viewers to leave everyday life behind and lose themselves completely in the sensual language of fabric and thread.
