Here I worked with transparencies for the first time, using black and white organza. I used a sewing machine (straight and zigzag stitch) to apply the individual pieces to the cotton backing fabric. All the black and white pieces are identical and are transformed from squares in the center into elongated, narrow rectangles. Their transparency allows parts of the figure underneath to show through. The piece is sewn onto a sheet of raw linen (74 x… 158 cm).
Renate Motycka works with textile materials, expressing her deep roots in textile art through a solid education and many years of experience. Her freehand machine embroidery technique is reduced to the essentials, characterized by clear forms, minimalist use of color, and three-dimensional effects, inspired by Bauhaus, Cubism, and Constructivism. Her works radiate tranquility, harmony, and a meditative flow, inviting viewers to leave everyday life behind and lose themselves completely in the sensual language of fabric and thread.
