Five elements of black and white fabric are arranged one behind the other, with the longest at the back and the shortest at the front. Originally, all the pieces were identical and flat, but by sewing pleats along the black center section, the fabric shapes became progressively shorter. At the same time, their three-dimensional appearance became more pronounced. I worked the front and back in a reciprocal fashion; that is, the three black rectangles… with white borders on the front appear white with black borders on the back. Since the elements need space between them, the simplest way to attach them is to use two thin, taut steel cables.
Renate Motycka works with textile materials, expressing her deep roots in textile art through a solid education and many years of experience. Her freehand machine embroidery technique is reduced to the essentials, characterized by clear forms, minimalist use of color, and three-dimensional effects, inspired by Bauhaus, Cubism, and Constructivism. Her works radiate tranquility, harmony, and a meditative flow, inviting viewers to leave everyday life behind and lose themselves completely in the sensual language of fabric and thread.
