About this artwork
My piece “Artificial Proxy” was made especially for the exhibition “Artificial Nature” in Barcelona, Spain organized by Nartwork. The piece depicts that lean and sometimes need for the artificial almost acting like a brace or a cushion to soften the fall. Yet as we use it as a cushion it does not replace the human element even if it sometimes acts as a proxy. There is dance within the balance. The shapes and lines were inspired by a trip to Barcelona…
and a series of sketches I did while there.

Rika Maja Duevel is a painter/mixed media artist from Stavanger, Norway living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her artwork manifests from her daily experiences, capturing the moment through an introverted lens. A focus on her own female experience and the journey and deeper research into the concept of the Introverted Artist, the unseen soul. An award-winning artist and graduate of Wheaton College, SACI, and Lesley University she has exhibited in Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Bologna, Naples, Florence, Milan, Barcelona, Granada, Paris, Seoul , Tokyo, and Buenos Aires. An Artist in Residence in Barcelona, Granada, Spain, Ardèche, France, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Guest Artist Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam’s Business School (UVA), published in the “50 Artists to Watch 2023” and “50 Artists to Discover 2025” by the Florence Contemporary Gallery, and named one of the “Top 30 Influential Women Entrepreneurs to Watch Out For in 2025” by NY Weekly Magazine.
