About this artwork
During my 1 Month Artist Residency Project at R.A.R.O. Barcelona. The project I developed while in Barcelona was to extend the themes of my current work embedded into the female experience and the journey, capturing the individual moments before they disappear. The main theme I focused on in Barcelona was deeper research into the concept of the Introverted Artist, the unseen soul, finding inspiration in the small maybe hidden things or small details…
within Barcelona. During the project I experimented with expanding the way I portray the figure and dived deeper into experimenting with materials like Acrylic Binder and Medium to develop the cut out painted pieces. Waiting on Uncertainty was sketched out after a phone call I received with concerning news. The emotional feeling of being pulled apart and making me question what my future may hold.

Rika Maja Duevel is a painter/mixed media artist from Stavanger, Norway living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her artwork manifests from her daily experiences, capturing the moment through an introverted lens. An award-winning artist and graduate of Wheaton College, SACI, and Lesley University she has exhibited in Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Bologna, Naples, Florence, Milan, Barcelona, Granada, Paris, Seoul , Tokyo, and Buenos Aires. An Artist in Residence in Barcelona, Granada, Spain, Ardèche, France, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Guest Artist Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam’s Business School (UVA), published in the “50 Artists to Watch 2023” and “50 Artists to Discover 2025” by the Florence Contemporary Gallery, and named one of the “Top 30 Influential Women Entrepreneurs to Watch Out For in 2025” by NY Weekly Magazine.
