About this artwork
“Emergence” evokes for me the appearance of a form from a dark and dense area.
Through this sculpture, I suggest a passage, a threshold — like a birth that slowly detaches itself from a murky and indeterminate matter.
The white form, fashioned from a material I compose myself, seems to emerge from a terrazzo mineral base. It is held in place by a welded steel structure, worked by hand, which acts both as a tension and support element.
I chose… to leave the steel raw so that it could interact with the mineral density of the base. The whole piece explores a relationship between weight and support, between darkness and emergence, between containing matter and form in flux.
With this work, I question the moment when matter becomes form — that fragile instant when something begins to exist.

Thomas Auzon, a self-taught sculptor, works exclusively with terrazzo, a material he creates himself from cement and marble aggregates, continuing his background in masonry. His works revolve around essential geometric forms, exploring balance, tension, and stability through a sensitive and structural approach. He thus creates strikingly mineral pieces, silent and timeless, conveying a profound and soothing emotion, inviting contemplation and a slow perception of material presence.
