About this artwork
Blackstar is the title of David Bowie's last CD released before his death. Tom Gefken heard
exclusively this music while working on this canvas. Thus, a "seascape" was created without any visual reference based on Bowie's music.
« Alternating between techniques keeps my head in motion and protects me from falling into a paralyzing routine. »
The German artist Tom Gefken was born in Bremen in 1960, where he still lives today. He is a founding member of the Galerie des Westens GaDeWe in Bremen and works as a freelance artist in a variety of areas including painting, assemblage, object and installation. Gefken's works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. His works can be seen in public spaces. He is represented in private collections.
