About this artwork

I remember the sheer joy I felt painting "Dancing with the Sun." I wanted to capture the radiant happiness of sunflowers, starting with a brilliant blue sky and those big, scudding white clouds.
For the sunflowers themselves, I used thick, impasto strokes, with a palette knife, to give them a lively, almost tangible texture. Each bloom is distinct, some boldly facing forward, others softly turned, whispering their secrets. The greens of their leaves… were crucial, providing a strong contrast to make the yellows truly pop, layered with different shades for depth and movement. At the very base, a hint of unexpected purple grounds the whole composition, adding a subtle richness.
Looking from a distance, the sunflowers seem to dance, their faces turned to the sun, absorbing its energy, radiating a profound sense of peace. That's why I named it "Dancing with the Sun"—it perfectly captures that feeling of lively harmony.
