The crucifix shown is designed as a wall cross and deals with the drama of Christian martyrdom on the cross. The body is attached to a cross made of welded iron pipes with a screw connection and can be separated from it, e.g. for free suspension without a cross. The sculpture was first modeled in clay and then cast in plaster of paris using a lost plaster mold. This was followed by overworking in layers with linseed oil-bound clay and pigments. The… modeling of the body is harsh and process-like, so that the traces of the creation flow into the expression. The earth-like material of the surface is also intended to symbolize the ephemeral. The dimensions refer to the cross bars. The body alone is 75 cm high and 58 cm wide.
« For me, the sculpture is the enthusiasm that inanimate material begins to speak out of itself through deformation alone and suddenly belongs to a part of the living world. »
Wolfgang Eckert is a sculptor based in Germany whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in France. Fascinated by the connection between plastic-spatial relationships and the human expression that becomes evident in them, his pieces are an "observation of nature and exploration of individuality". In addition, Eckert's pieces are self-reflective and inspired by his memories. His diverse compositions are created using cement and plaster.
