About this artwork
The statue symbolizes Knossos, the palace of the Minoans, a mysterious civilization. Many see in this palace the mythical labyrinth where, according to legend, the Minotaur was imprisoned. This is the famous episode of Ariadne's Thread. Here, the statue is the plaything of Theseus, a deified roly-poly toy. Knossos, with its somber gaze, draws us into the mystery of ancient civilizations.
