mocchi mocchi is a sister printmaking duo based in Kyoto, composed of Sachiko Mochizuki and Junko Mochizuki. Working in a studio inherited from their master printer, they employ hand-pulled silkscreen techniques and collaborate closely, blending their individual sensibilities into each artwork.
Their work combines precise lines with subtle tonal gradations, transforming everyday motifs—such as cats, vases, and trees—into simplified, abstract forms. By thoughtfully utilizing negative space, each motif’s essential presence is highlighted, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer.
Reflecting Japanese aesthetics such as ma (the space between) and wabi-sabi, their prints also resonate with international movements like minimalism and abstract expressionism. Through this approach, their artworks convey gentle humor and invite viewers to experience moments of resonance, harmony, and fresh discoveries inspired by the beauty of everyday life.
