About this artwork
It is not a bull, nor a creature of nature, but a construction that I depict as a field of energy pressed into form, into flat and curved shapes. Not an animal, but a state into which we look, into which we are drawn; a mirror that reflects the environment and, ideally, the viewer as well, thereby evoking the feeling that “you are in it too.” Its cold, metal body, held together by straps, reflects the world, yet conceals its own. but the rivets and joints betray it: strength, too, is a fragile structure, a will in need of maintenance. Totem and mirror at once; a glittering replica of the momentum straining within us, which asks whether what we call strength is, in fact, freedom or discipline.
