About this artwork
My painting is an archaeological exploration on the canvas. This work didn't begin with the finished picture, but rather with a fascination for color and structure as pure matter.
I work in many layers, 'wet on wet', and with fast, rhythmic movements.
By removing the paint with large tools, accidents and fragments are created that I cannot plan, cracks, streaks and complex color mixtures that give the picture its vibrant patina.
The red serves… here as a necessary break, disrupting the harmony of the blue and captivating the eye.
This image is about letting go and the beauty of imperfection.
It invites you to get close and examine the traces of the tool, and then to step back again to let the vibrant overall composition take effect.
An epoxy resin finish gives the image a mirrored, high-gloss look and makes the colors appear even brighter and more contrasting.
Adam Cieslik is a self-taught painter who works with acrylics, texture pastes, and natural pigments, having originally experimented with pencil, paper, and even coffee. He combines intuitive processes with layered painting, where chance and control merge, and abstraction, as well as the tension between stillness and energy, characterize his work. His art touches the viewer through profound explorations of identity, transience, and inner transformations, aiming to reveal authentic emotions so that they resonate long after the moment is over.
