It all began because of unreliable public transportation. Because of inconsistent scheduling due to protests, Anne-Fance Dautheville, born in 1944 in Paris, bought herself a Honda moped in 1968. She was a sensation in the 60’s, riding her moped to her job as a journalist. At that time, motorbikes were reserved for hooligans. But for Anne-France it was love at first ride. Her journalism job was soon thereafter too staid for the biker, who enlisted…
as the first and only woman on a motorcycle rally from Paris to Iran. Financing the rally herself, she arrived as one of 11 from the 100 bikers she had started with at the goal line. Once there, she continued on as one of 5 bikes to Afghanistan and Pakistan before returning to Paris. Upon arriving home, she found out what the press had been reporting about her, saying she was a nymphomaniac, lesbian and had let herself be driven in the accompanying truck.
