It had to be. Live Aid in 1985 is considered the greatest live performance the world has ever seen. In just 21 minutes, Freddie Mercury captivated Wembley Stadium, 72,000 people, and nearly two billion television viewers worldwide. They didn't rehearse with the other artists. They just went on stage and did it.
The challenge was to reflect that energy without cutting it off. Without framing it too much,… without making it static. At first, I thought the colors didn't work together—the orange, the yellow, the pinks, the purples. But I put it together little by little, and it began to take shape.
And then I put the miniature figures.
That was it. At that moment, I fell in love with this piece. The figures give scale to something that would otherwise be just color. They make you understand the magnitude of what you're seeing.
It's probably my favorite from the whole collection. And I think if you have it in front of you at home, you'll always know why.

Alan Durst (Mexico, 1997) is a contemporary artist based in Madrid and founder of the Durst Lab studio. An architect by training and a painter by vocation, his work starts from geometric structure to open up towards the organic, the emotional and the narrative.
His compositions combine layers of color that expand from a center with small, hyperrealistic human figures. This tension between the monumental and the intimate is at the heart of his language: the scale of the epic measured in human bodies.
Influenced by music, pop culture and architecture, he translates sound moments and cultural atmospheres into visual experiences where rhythm, light and color function as emotional vehicles.
In less than three years he has sold more than 40 original works and has developed solo exhibitions in Madrid and self-managed immersive projects such as Golden Hour (2025)
