About this artwork
There are moments in history that need no explanation. Wembley 1988 is one of them.
When I started thinking about this collection, the first thing that came to mind was that image: 72,000 people, including Princess Diana, witnessing the coronation of the King of Pop live. It wasn't a concert. It was a historic event.
The challenge of this piece was precisely that: how to make the dark colors not overwhelm the composition, but rather support it.… How to make Michael Jackson the focal point of everything. How to make everything else revolve around him.
The result is a piece of contained, almost architectural geometry. Dark, but precise. Like him.
This is work 1 of 6 from Groove It, a collection created to honor the artists who defined an era.
Alan Durst is a self-taught painter based in Spain whose practice explores conceptual and visual painting through self-experimentation and a deep human connection. His techniques are characterized by minimalist human figures enveloped in soft geometric compositions, using warm palettes of oranges, pinks, and blues to evoke emotional states. In his work, he conveys calm and upliftment; his pieces invite reflection on inner transformation, emotional resilience, and the beauty of the small changes that shape our lives.
