About this artwork
This work is part of the COLORS project. These paintings are based solely on the varied application (and/or dripping) and combination of colors, from primary to secondary to complementary.
I wanted to explore the beauty and meaning of colors—pure colors, not colors that fill a form or blend with a form, which prevents them from being simply interpreted as COLORS. I studied the power they have on us and our psyche, their significance, their expressiveness.… How their effect varies with the various materials they are combined with, or over which they flow or move.
The work consists of two panels, which are hung side by side, in any order you like. I love seeing all the colors of the rainbow together, like a summer rain: warm and cool, primary and complementary. The colors are poured onto a stucco base with a three-dimensional relief, creating a very evocative effect, both tactile and visual.
Alessandra Merli uses a variety of natural materials such as sand, stone, glass, paper, wood, and fabric, combining her classical training with philosophical passions. Her technique encompasses abstract art, informal art, abstract expressionism, and conceptual art, giving visual form to values, principles, and metaphysical concepts through signs, colors, and words. In her paintings, she conveys profound emotions and invites reflection on beauty, spirituality, and the essential values of existence, encouraging the viewer to elevate themselves and rediscover the meaning of life.
