Pulling Strings plays with the idea of control — but it is unclear who is actually in control.
The woman appears almost like a puppeteer, her arms raised as if pulling invisible strings. Yet the movement of her own body suggests the opposite: perhaps she is the one being pulled? Standing on tiptoe and leaning slightly backwards, she seems caught between directing a movement and being carried by it. I like the uncertainty of this moment — whether… she is making something happen or simply responding to forces we cannot see.
Pulling Strings sits at the beginning of a transition — still holding on, while already beginning to question who is holding the strings. This shift from control towards the fluidity of letting go has since become central to my work.
Watercolor became the perfect medium for this exploration: its honest imperfection and movement far beyond strict lines leave room for something less controlled to emerge.
